The burnt edge and one side give these a unique flair as the patterns created aren't all the same and enhance the pieces. This neat little wood oval is *perfect* for my intended purpose, as a picture-hanger.
I painted the loop my color of choice (deep green) with a paint marker, affixed the loop to the back of my small (≈ 4 inches square) wooden picture frame with Gorilla glue (the wood is, of course, too thin and narrow for even a tiny nail to work well), and it slips easily and securely over a pushpin to hold my frame in place sturdily and aesthetically.
